Joyeux Été by Lancome c1947

Joyeux Été by Lancome: launched in 1947 as part of Lancome's Eau de Senteurs line of eau de toilettes.



The New Yorker - Volume 29, 1953:

"Lancome has cooked up three more colognes. Graces du Printemps is cool and brisk; Joyeux Été is light and dry; Bel Automne is musky and warm. Four- and eight- ounce flacons are, respectively, $4.20 and $7.20 at Saks."


Fragrance Composition:



So what does it smell like? It is described as a light and dry floral chypre fragrance for women.
  • Top notes: Portuguese calendula, Iranian galbanum, marigold and Calabrian bergamot
  • Middle notes: Egyptian jasmine, Florentine orris root, orchid, Dutch narcissus, Alpine lily-of-the-valley and Grasse rose
  • Base notes: Java vetiver, Yugoslavian oakmoss, Venezuelan tonka bean, Siamese benzoin, Tibetan musk and white Virginia cedar

  1. I never wore any perfume but Joyeux Ete until it was discontinued. It really was my signature fragrance.
    I left home to take a job in Norwich when my nephew was just two years old. Eighteen months later I sent his mother a lovely summer dress which I knew I wouldn't wear again. As she unpacked the parcel he said, "Smells like Auntie Pat". People always knew when I was around. I loved it. I still miss it.
