Bel Automne by Lancome: launched in 1947.



The New Yorker - Volume 29, 1953:

"Lancome has cooked up three more colognes. Graces du Printemps is cool and brisk; Joyeux Été is light and dry; Bel Automne is musky and warm. Four- and eight- ounce flacons are, respectively, $4.20 and $7.20 at Saks."

 Homes and Gardens, 1953:
"Bel Automne," "toilet water and an amusing globe containing solid perfume — the gilt top lifts off. Lancome."


Fragrance Composition:



So what does it smell like? It was classified as a chypre fragrance for men and described as musky and warm.
  • Top notes: Italian citrus fruits
  • Middle notes: Grasse rose, Provencal lavender
  • Base notes: Ethiopian civet, Tyrolean oakmoss, ambergris, Mysore sandalwood, Tibetan musk, Madagascar vanilla, patchouli

The frosted glass perfume flacon was designed by Georges Delhomme and manufactured by Verrières de la Bresle.






Fate of the Fragrance:


Discontinued, date unknown.
